Water drop range

The Water Drop dinnerware range marked my debut collection at Dankotuwa Porcelain. It was showcased as the main exhibit at the Ambiente 2021 lifestyle exhibition in Germany. This range embodies precision achievable through advanced machinery, the geometric elegance integral to product design, and the harmonious blend of reactive glazes with geometric patterns.
Design Process
Conceptualization
The design journey began with a water drop as the central motif, inspired by the golden ratio—a timeless principle of natural aesthetics. This motif served as the foundation for the entire range.
Focal Point
In fine dining, the salad plate holds a central position in the dining setup. Leveraging this, the salad plate was emphasized as the focal point, incorporating intricate details and a pattern guided by the Fibonacci sequence to elevate its visual appeal.
Range Development
The next step involved defining the range composition and designing the shapes of each item. Patterns were individually crafted, balancing aesthetics with manufacturing constraints and ensuring a low damage margin during production.

Description
Plants can grow new cells in spirals, such as the pattern of seeds in the sunflower. The spiral happens naturally because each new cell is formed after a turn. Waterdrop wildflower series has been inspired by this natural phenomenon. The series is in-house CNC crafted pattern and hand glazed with iron oxide manually sponged edge to give out the chronic stoneware touch. This beautifully manufactured series has been extended up to dinnerware and tea series with a broad range of pieces.
Statement of the jury
The beautiful decor of the ‘Waterdrop wild flower’ tableware series is inspired by natural, plant-like structures and is not only a visual but also a tactile experience, creating a special atmosphere on every table.
